Suicide Prevention Day
In March 2015 Jared Padalecki from my favorite Show “Supernatural” launched a T-Shirt Campaign on Represent.com.
It was a cute design, It had Jared on it and three very important words, that to this day are getting me thru some tough times. Always Keep Fighting, I saw the shirt and the message of the campaign and started to cry. Cause he knew how I felt, he admitted that he suffered from depression, just like me. And the campaign was to benefit To Write Love On Her Arms , which is an amazing 501(c)(3) Charity. The sales raised over $250’000 for TWLOHA.
Why am I writing this?
I suffer from depression and anxiety. I used to not. But circumstances and a Toxic friendship, messed with my brain chemistry. At one point in the friendship, I had to turn off my phone at night to get some sleep. At one point I realized also that I just no longer cared. But then my children came to mind and my husband and I realized that I had to be there for them. And it comes out that sometimes it’s the reverse and my husband is my rock, which is ok. Also Supernatural was there for me in the days, where I did not want to get out of bed, but I did cause I knew the brother did too.
So I want to say that it is ok to not be ok. I got help, and that is ok too. We need to erase the stigma of Mental illness, that it’s “Just in your Head”. If we can erase the stigma, people that suffer will get help. And I am so grateful for organizations, like TWLOHA, Attitudes in Reverse, the Trevor Project and many more. For education and helping.
Please check in on your friends every so often to see if they need anything. Even if it’s just a hug, a meal or some company. Be there for them, they probably won’t let you know that they are not doing ok.
